An Extension of the MONQ Team: How We’ve Helped MONQ Grow from a Small Startup to an International Success

We started working with MONQ in 2015, just as they were starting to grow. At the time, they had a premade website on WooCommerce, but were in need of something more.

In short, they wanted a website with a custom design and functionality that would convert more visitors into customers, along with an optimized platform needed to scale.

In this blog post, we’ll share with you how we’ve succeeded in helping MONQ grow from a small startup into the massive international success that they are today.

Who is MONQ? 

MONQ is a rapidly growing eCommerce company that sells portable essential oil diffusers both online and in stores across the globe. 

CEO and former orthopedic surgeon, Eric Fishman, started MONQ after he realized that there was a way to improve peoples’ lives using natural compounds, rather than traditional medicine. Nowadays, you can find other brands that sell portable essential oil diffusers…but MONQ pioneered them.

MONQ’s Goals 

When they came to us, MONQ already had a premade website on WooCommerce, but they were in need of something more. They wanted a website with a custom design and functionality that would convert more visitors into customers, along with an optimized platform needed to scale.

They decided to partner with us because they felt like we had a solid understanding of what they wanted to accomplish. They stayed with us because of our excellence, along with our ability to help their team perform and expand on new initiatives. 

Since day one of joining forces with MONQ, we’ve been an extension of their team. With our help, they’ve been able to scale and grow into the massive success that they are today. Could they have done it without us? Of course (they’re led by the best of the best). But we’re proud to have played a role in their success and have helped them get to where they are today. 

How We’ve Helped MONQ Grow 

Here are just a few ways that we’ve helped MONQ grow: 

1. We Optimized the Checkout Process to Increase Conversions

MONQ first came to us needing help with their checkout process. At the time, the process was a bit clunky and the design relied on the default styling of the platform. In other words, the checkout process wasn’t very user-friendly and it definitely didn’t scream “MONQ.” 

We created a custom designed checkout process, built into the website.

The result? A simplified, more user-friendly, on brand checkout process to help decrease shopping cart abandonmentand increase conversions and sales

2. We Helped Ensure There’s No Limit to What MONQ Can Sell in a Day

When we began working with MONQ, they were just starting to grow…but they were growing at a rapid pace. They were getting more orders than their website and operations team could handle. They were in need of a new website that would be able to process a significant amount of orders and volume without slowing down. They also needed to put in place new operations processes and integrations that could keep up with all the orders they were receiving. 

We built MONQ a website that was able to handle all of those orders and grow at the same pace as the business itself. And now, we continually optimize their site to ensure that there’s no limit to what they can sell in a day

On top of that, we helped provide the fulfillment team with what they needed to fulfill all of the orders successfully, and we helped the customer service team handle the challenges that came with an increased order volume. 

3. We Created Custom Features to Enhance the Shopper Experience 

Over the years, we’ve also implemented a variety of custom features on the MONQ website in order to provide users with a better shopping experience. Here are just a few things that we’ve done: 

Custom Product Packs 

MONQ sells packs of diffusers; they needed a nice-looking, easy-to-use interface that would allow their shoppers to see—and choose from—all of the different blends when composing their packs. We helped them create that: 


More recently, we created a customized “mix and match” functionality, allowing customers to bundle the MONQ products of their choice.

Find Nearby Retail Stores 

As MONQ began expanding offline (to retail stores throughout the country), they wanted their customers to be able to easily find them in-store. So we developed an interface that allows shoppers to find MONQ in retail stores near them. 

As a result, both new and diehard customers now have an easy way to find MONQ in the location nearest them. 

4. We Developed a Customized Subscription Program 

MONQ wanted to take advantage of the fact that it sells a replenishable product. So we implemented a custom subscription program, with a customized backend and frontend that allows customers to set up subscriptions for the products they purchase. 

More recently, we created and implemented an updated version of this, called Auto-Ship. We customized the front-end to ensure an easy, on-brand user experience, which allows customers to turn on the Auto-Ship feature and determine the frequency of the subscriptions themselves. We also customized the functionality so that every fifth shipment is free to subscribers.

5. We Planned and Executed a Successful Email Marketing Program

Before they started working with us, MONQ didn’t have a scalable email marketing program in place. We jump-started a program and process for them, which included: 

  • Content calendar & promotion planning 
  • Content calendar management setup 
  • Designing each email campaign, in conjunction with their content team 
  • Managing email sends
  • List maintenance

After everything was planned, executed and running smoothly, we trained the internal MONQ team on how to do everything, and then handed the process off to them. 

An Extension of the MONQ Team

For the last four years, we’ve worked closely with MONQ, day in and day out, to help them scale and grow into the company that they are today. By partnering with us, they’ve been able to focus on doing what they do best and allow us to cover the short- and long-term website needs.

We help MONQ grow as a company, from taking complete responsibility of tasks to filling in the gaps where a full-time employee (and management) is not needed. By working with us, team members are able to take time off every now and then without having to worry about things getting done. 

MONQ has put so much trust into our team that our Team Lead, Avin, is now the Director of Digital Development for MONQ. Here’s proof:

We’ve truly become a part of their team—and that says a whole lot more than all of the pretty designs we’ve created and the cool technical stuff we’ve done for them.  

Future of MONQ 

Looking ahead, we’re confident that MONQ has a bright future. They’re continuing to expand, gaining a much larger presence in retail stores like Urban Outfitters. 

But that’s not all. They have also been expanding internationally, providing low cost and quick shipping throughout Europe. 

We’re looking forward to finding out what’s in store for MONQ. And we’re excited to help them on the journey.
